KSC Experience Day 2026: Exchange from within the company for within the company

The KSC Experience Day on January 13, 2026, in Hamburg focused entirely on real-world project experiences. Instead of product presentations, the event addressed concrete questions from the daily work of operators, planners, and technical decision-makers: How can hybrid SDI/IP environments be operated reliably? How can operation remain clear and user-friendly even under time pressure? And which architectural decisions will contribute to long-term operational success?

What made the format special was that customers themselves reported on their projects , supplemented by insights into current developments at KSC Systems.

Multimedia Control Room at rbb: IP architecture without an additional orchestrator layer

Frank Rösner (rbb) provided a key practical contribution with insights into the KSC implementation for the Multimedia Control Room (MCR) . The project aims to control streaming workflows across locations via a unified interface.

A deliberate architectural decision was made: MoIP without an additional SDN orchestrator , instead deeply integrating NMOS IS-04/IS-05 directly into the broadcast controller. For operations, this means fewer system boundaries, fewer dependencies, and clearer responsibilities.

The project openly demonstrated the current status, which components are already in production, and where further refinements are needed. This transparency made the presentation particularly valuable for many participants.

Media Operations Center at SWR: Operational safety as a holistic concept

The close relationship between technology, processes, and the work environment was clearly demonstrated in the presentation on the SWR's Media Operations Center (MOC) . Alexander Kramb and Thomas Petillon (SWR) provided insights into the overall concept of a central, IP-based operating environment.

The focus was less on individual systems and more on how to ensure long-term stability in 24/7 operations – including migration, workplace logic, monitoring, and clear control structures. The presentation made it clear: operational reliability is not achieved through individual components, but through the interplay of architecture, user interface, and organization.

Radio Campus at RSI: Radio broadcasting as part of dynamic IP workflows

Marc Straehl (SLG) contributed another customer perspective with his experience report on the Radiocampus at RSI . The focus was on the integration of radio production into a dynamic, IP-based environment.

Particularly relevant for many broadcasters: Radio broadcasting brings its own unique requirements – for example, regarding audio routing, delegation logic, and user interface. The presentation demonstrated how these requirements can be integrated into a central control system without disrupting existing workflows.

Control, monitoring and open interfaces: Insights from KSC Systems

In addition to the customer contributions , BFE presented several current developments, including:

  • the KSC Open Controller Interface (OCI) as an open interface for additional control panels

  • New features in Bouquet Router for more flexible mapping of dynamic workflows

  • KSC SinAlarm for integrated monitoring and escalation management

  • An outlook on KSC Horizon and order management as the first cloud application

The focus here was less on feature depth and more on how these building blocks could be meaningfully integrated into existing operational structures.

The most important learnings in 60 seconds

  1. IP migration requires workflow continuity : control, resources and operation must remain consistent.

  2. Open interfaces are an operational advantage : The Open Controller Interface enables additional operating concepts without isolated solutions.

  3. Fewer secondary systems = fewer error paths : MoIP control directly from the broadcast controller can reduce complexity.

  4. 24/7 means: Technology + workplace logic : MOC/Playout projects show how strongly space, processes and monitoring are interconnected.

  5. Security must work operationally : EBU recommendations are only helpful if they are translated into architecture and daily business.

Outlook

The Experience Day demonstrated the significant added value generated when projects are discussed not as "references" but as operational reality : with decisions, considerations, and concrete mechanisms. This feedback is incorporated into the further development of KSC Core and related modules – always with a focus on how it is actually used in shift operations.
