At the Thuringian Media Symposium 2025, CTO Hartmut Opfermann explains how errors in IP-based broadcast systems can be specifically located.

With the transition from classic SDI workflows to IP-based production environments according to SMPTE ST 2110, the requirements for analysis and troubleshooting are also changing. Where previously a signal could be traced over a physical connection, network structures, protocol layers, and timing mechanisms are now crucial.

As part of the Thuringian Media Symposium 2025 in Erfurt, Hartmut Opfermann , CTO of BFE Studio und Medien Systeme GmbH , will show which methods and tools have proven themselves in practical operation – and how to systematically narrow down the causes of errors in IP infrastructures.

A central part of his presentation is the role of telemetry and continuous system monitoring . Instead of manually disconnecting connections, relevant data can be queried directly from the devices and evaluated centrally – often even remotely and in real time. This allows anomalies to be detected before they lead to failures.

Current developments in standardization are also highlighted: While many manufacturers continue to rely on their own solutions, the BCP-008 guideline adopted by the AMWA (Advanced Media Workflow Association) creates, for the first time, a common basis for interoperable status monitoring. This represents a crucial step towards standardized troubleshooting across manufacturer boundaries.

The presentation provides practical tips for technicians and system integrators, as well as an outlook on future developments in the field of IP troubleshooting and broadcast interoperability .

The Thuringian Media Symposium 2025 will take place on November 18th and 19th at the STUDIOPARK Children's Media Center in Erfurt . It is organized by the FKTG Thuringia regional group .
